Liverpool, Merseyside, Wirral and North-West Cheshire: Photos, Information, History, Walks and Links
What is allertonOak?
allertonOak is for anyone who would like to explore and learn more about Liverpool, Merseyside, Wirral and the surrounding areas (the red box on the map). The site name was adopted from a famous ancient tree in Calderstones Park in the south of Liverpool.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SINCE 2020 I AM NO LONGER UPDATING THIS SITE. Inevitably some things will become out of date so please bear this in mind. Fifteen years has been a good run and the site has generated tremendous feedback from (mostly) appreciative users, to whom my thanks.
The site is organised into three large sections:
merseySights
A large number of original photos and other illustrations, with history, architecture and much more, organised by region.
merseyWalks
Illustrated descriptions of some of the best walks in the area with mobile and printer friendly options.
merseyThemes
Detailed and lavishly illustrated, cross-regional special features.
I hope you enjoy your visit and I would like to offer you a warm Scouse welcome (Liverpudlians are of course known as Scousers, after the gastronomic delight of boiled root vegetables and meat we are thought to eat all the time). Merseysiders are proud of their region, and rightly so. It is exceptionally rich in history, culture, interest and visual appeal as I hope you will agree. If allertonOak satisfies your curiosity about Merseyside, causes pangs of nostalgia if you are an expat or simply gets you away from the telly, then it will have served its purpose. Best of all, why not visit Merseyside and take a look for yourself.
